Sandrouni Armenian Ceramics

George and Dorin Sandrouni carry on an ancient Armenian tradition from their small workshop in Jerusalem.

They are heirs to a Holy Land tradition established in 1919 by David Ohannessian, when he established the first Armenian pottery workshop in Jerusalem, for the purpose of replacing tiles in Al Aska Mosque.

However the tradition of Armenian ceramics is as old as the Armenian people.  Like music, poetry, sculpture and dance, ceramics is an important aspect of Armenian heritage.

Armenian ceramics reached unprecedented levels of finesse and originality during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, when many Armenian families operated workshops in Kutahya and Iznik, and contributed in decorating palaces and mansions in Turkey, Egypt and Jerusalem. The Sandrouni family carries on that tradition today, with artistic flair and original designs.
